AUSTIN, TX - Southwest Movers Association (SMA) is proud to announce Mike Streckfus as the 2026 Heritage Award recipient. The Heritage Award is the association’s highest honor, recognizing a member whose leadership, service, and dedication have made a lasting impact on the moving industry and SMA. The Heritage Award luncheon in Mike’s honor will be held on September 29, 2026 in Galveston as part of the SMA Annual Conference.

Mike’s career in the moving industry began in May 1968 when he joined Bekins Moving & Storage in Houston after returning home from serving in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. Over the next 18 years, he held roles in inside, residential and corporate sales, eventually serving as corporate sales manager for Oklahoma and Texas and training sales professionals.

Mike later spent three years with Baker International providing valuation and claims services to SMA moving companies before transitioning to the insurance industry. He eventually founded Omni Insurance Agency Inc., representing Aegis Insurance Services and providing property and casualty coverage to Texas moving and storage companies.

His insurance career led to more than 20 years of involvement with SMA as an associate member, vendor and Annual Conference sponsor. He also served on the SMA Foundation Committee and Associates Committee. Mike’s son, Sean, joined the business in 2006 and eventually took over the company. Mike retired in 2018 after a five-decade career serving the moving and storage industry.

“Throughout his decades of service, Mike has demonstrated a lasting commitment to the moving industry and the people who make it successful. His extensive experience and dedication have made him a respected member of the industry and a valued part of the SMA community,” said SMA Executive Director, John D. Esparza.

SMA is a trade association representing the household goods moving industry in Texas. SMA is dedicated to enhancing the performance and profitability of moving companies and promoting a safe and reliable moving industry that includes strict adherence to state laws and ethical standards.
